Grammy award winning artiste, Tems has finally released her long-awaited debut album which she titled “Born in the wild.” She gained the recognition she deserved back in 2019 after dropping her hit single “Try Me,” along with her other Eps; “For Broken Ears” and “If Orange was a Place.” Her brilliant appearance on Wizkid’s “Essence” paved way for her in the global light as she made more appearances on Future and Drake’s “Wait For U” as well her contribution in the soundtrack of Black Panther; Wakanda forever movie where she did her cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” and co-writing Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up”. Within the short period of her recognition in the music industry, Tems has clearly made outstanding performances and so deserves our accolades.

The Nigerian songstress released her debut album on the 7th of June 2024, the album consists of 18 tracks where she featured Asake as well as J.Cole in “Get it Right” and “Free Fall” respectively. The RnB artiste infused a lot of realness, soulfulness and emotions as she tells her story on personal growth and her rise to stardom. She expresses her zeal and determination to surpass her current performances while reflecting on her success in singing in “Wickedest” as well as “Ready”. Tems also admits her journey in search of true, long-lasting love in “Love Me Jeje” and “Me & U” but her search for love does not make her desperate to fall into a toxic relationships which can be understood more in “Boy O Boy” and “Unfortunate” where she expresses her wishes to hurt and detach from a lover who had previously broken her heart.

One of the many unique things about this album is the blend of different genres, from RnB to soul to afrobeats, hip-hop and jazz which exposes the degree of her talent. The album also speaks on her vulnerability to growth both mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally as she speaks on love and heartbreak which makes the album extremely relatable. The album has received a lot of positive reviews and comments which it obviously deserves making it clear that Tems is on the right track to more greatness.
